Comedian Bron Lewis

August 2026

I was given a ticket to see Bron Lewis, the female comedian last night. She is a fairly new, winning a raw talent prize in 2022 and a couple of prestigious prizes since.

If this is the gauge of cutting edge comedy in Australia then I find that a depressing thought

I was struck by the $85 dollar ticket price for the privilege of sitting in a dingy town hall for "entertainment" that lasted just over an hour. It was almost sold out with two sessions that time. I looked up the seating capacity afterwards and is around 800. Take out the venue fee and her promoter and what are you left with, a lot of moolah.

It might be just me but hearing the f word in her routine lost its shock value after about the tenth repetition and the c word after the 2nd.

Audience participation shows thinking on your feet and some of the interactions were amusing but after extensive mocking one particular audience member's enthusiastic explanation of why she like working from home, which she was invited to do, that crossed the line into cruelty and I felt as though I was a complicit bystander to a bully in the school yard.

Not surprisingly audience participation then dried up.

Her best moment was her reaction to her husband's revelation he had a helper in the school class room, but being the responsible parent and telling her child it was normal for there to be one in her class room, not to think less of that child being the subtext.

Her worst and it was a continuing theme was middle class angst how parts of parenting she hated and how then made her angry when others said she will miss the parenting gig because it made her feel guilt for having those thoughts.

Maybe the Truman Show was a documentary and she should live there?

Just because you make poor lifestyle choices with your money by not employing a nanny don't expect others to engage with your premise.

I was wondering how many childless adults in the room, and there were plenty by the show of hands, would putting the money aspect aside do anything to swap places and put up with what she whines about.

The other lowlight was to put forward another first name to shame, if the gross negative characterisations of victims named Karen was not enough of a blight in this world.

I am not saying comedy is an easy gig but it has to be easier than this.
